Whether you are student or just a geoscience enthusiast, there’s something for everyone!

What People Are Saying

“If I had seen this video (and one other on 20+ careers) in 1958 (when I was a HS sophomore!), I would have been inspired to seriously consider becoming a geology student. I just send links to my science-oriented 15-year old grandson.”

Meet rachel

Rachel Phillips recieved her PhD in geological sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2023. Her doctoral research utilized biogeochemistry to study paleoceanography (she did lab experiments that tested how life affects rock formation in order to better understand the marine rock record and reconstruct past ocean conditions).

From 2024 to 2025, she completed an NSF STEM Education Postdoctoral Fellowship and taught at the University of South Carolina. Her postdoc research aimed to increase geoscience enrollment and engagement by transforming existing misconceptions surrounding the field.

Now, Rachel works for the Geological Society of America (GSA) to create educational geoscience content for their YouTube channel and other social media platforms.

Are you a Geoscientist?
Come on the Podcast!

I’m always looking for new guests for the “Work For Earth!” podcast to highlight diverse geoscience careers.

So far, guests have included environmental consultants, petroleum geologists, mining and economic geologists, National Park Service rangers, US Forest Service geologists, hydrogeologists, earthquake geologists, geotechnical engineers, oceanographers, and others.

I would love to have on: planetary geologists, glaciologists, concrete/construction geologists or aggregate mining geologists, and professional geologists that have gotten their licensure in the UK, CA, or other countries and can share info about that.

If you work in geoscience in a different capacity, I’d still love to hear about it. Please reach out to me at rfphillips@miners.utep.edu!
